Introducing Jamie Cashion
Grandmaster Jamie Cashion is an 9th degree black belt in American Karate, an entrepreneur and motivational speaker.
When you first meet Jamie Cashion, you can’t help but notice the scars on his face, left when the then 16-year-old volunteer firefighter was severely burned battling a grass fire that nearly took his life. But give him just a few minutes and the scars fade from view and all you are left with is a genuinely humble man who has dedicated his life to giving back to others. For Grandmaster Cashion, everyone is a “good buddy,” only some have not yet had the pleasure of meeting him.

Jamie Cashion’s love of the Martial Arts began in 1977 when he joined his first Karate class with Billy Smith in Burleson, Texas. For over 30 years, Cashion has taught martial arts for free at various churches, recreation centers and schools in the Fort Worth area. He is the senior ranking black belt under his mentor Grand Master J. Pat Burleson with Christian Soldiers Karate. In 2011 he took his mission to reach out through the martial arts to Uganda, working with children at an orphanage. He plans to return to Africa in 2014 to continue his work.
Cashion has also brought attention to the martial arts through a variety of programs he has begun. He has established a “Night of Tribute” dinner at which pioneers of the martial arts are honored as living legends. He also has presented honorary black belts to luminaries in many fields, including U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Dirk Debbink, businessman T. Boone Pickens, country singer Toby Keith and the rock band Journey. In 2012 he helped honor the families of local service members who had died in Iraq, bringing together over 200 martial artists in full uniform to line the streets of downtown Fort Worth to shake their hands.
In addition to his martial arts efforts, Grandmaster Cashion continues to give back to his community. Still a first responder, he was among the earliest on the scene after a devastating EF-4 tornado struck Granbury, Texas, on March 15, 2013. He remained on the scene with other volunteers for hours, helping to rescue people from the wreckage of destroyed and damaged homes and buildings. After the tragic explosion at a fertilizer company in West, Texas, GRandmaster Cashion spoke to the city of Fort Worth to help raise money to benefit firefighters there.
In 2013 Grandmaster Cashion was recognized by four of the leading martial arts organizations: the Masters Hall of Fame, the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame, the U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the Martial Arts History Museum.
“I am so blessed to be recognized for what I love to do, which is sharing the martial arts as well as helping others,” said Cashion of his quartet of awards. “God has been so good to me.” -Master Jamie Cashion
Most recently, on January 25, 2015, Grandmaster Jamie Cashion was inducted into the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honors.
The first of Grandmaster Cashion’s honors came at the Fourteenth Annual Masters Hall of Fame Awards Banquet in Costa Mesa, Calif., on June 22. 2013 where he was awarded the Bushido Award alongside martial arts legends Don “The Dragon” Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock. Grandmaster Cashion was originally inducted into Masters Hall of Fame in 2011 alongside Ed Parker Jr and Cynthia Rothrock.
“I am honored beyond belief to receive the Bushido Award from the Masters Hall of Fame along with such icons of the martial arts as Don Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock,” said Cashion of his induction. “I truly do not feel I am worthy of such recognition, and I thank God for all of the blessings in my life.”
Grandmaster Jamie Cashion has been named the Vice President of the Texas Masters Hall of Fame event. He has named Grandmasters J. Pat Burleson, George Minshew, and Tony Lopez as ambassadors.
On August 3, 2013 Cashion received the second of his honors when he was named an Ambassador to the Martial Arts by the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame at the Seventeenth Annual UMAHoF Event in Houston, Texas. One week later, again in Houston, Cashion was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame alongside long-time mentor Grand Master J. Pat Burleson, Grand Master Raymond McCallum and Dwayne “Rooster” Machen. For Cashion, this was one of the highlights of the year.
“It is truly an honor for me to be inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame alongside Grandmaster J. Pat Burleson, Grand Master Raymond McCallum and the great Dwayne ‘Rooster’ Machen,” said Cashion of his induction. “These are men I have looked up to for years, and just to be on the same stage as them was unbelievable. I want to thank God for all the blessings he has given me over the years.”
The series of awards closed out on September 7 when Cashion received a coveted Honor Award from the Martial Arts History Museum at a ceremony in Burbank, Calif. Once again Grandmaster Cashion was recognized for his achievements in the martial arts as well as his dedication to serving the community. The Museum, which opened in 1999, is dedicated to providing an educational, cultural and artistic experience about the martial arts to visitors from around the world. Among earlier recipients for the Honor Award are Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Chuck Norris, Don “The Dragon” Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock.
“Being inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum’s Wall of Honor alongside masters like Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan and Don Wilson is an honor I never dreamed of,” said Cashion of his recognition.
While Grandmaster Cashion is appreciative of the recognition he has received, anyone who knows him also knows that nothing will change about this humble, dedicated man. From the neighborhoods of Fort Worth to the dusty fields of Uganda and everywhere in between, Jamie Cashion will always be everyone’s good buddy.
